Optimism vs. pessimism

Again I want to thank you all for your comments. They are really appreciated whether they are positive or negative. I really am glad that I am not part of the city politics anymore and I really do not understand why the council is in such a hurry to get rid of Joe Donabed since his contract expires May 2010. If they would have just waited until May, they could replace him with no problem. Trying to get rid of him early is going to cost the city at least $100,000 and maybe more with legal fees. It just does not make any economic sense.
There is no justifiable reason to remove the man. We have gone back to an era when the voters of Hughson were treated like mushrooms. You know the sayings as well as I do. I have not seen this amount of pessimism in the city council in years. And I have the following comments to make regarding the optimistic approach to a subject versus the pessimistic approach. Here they are (my opinion):
  • If an optimist does not like guns, he doesn’t buy one.
  • If a pessimist doesn’t like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
  • If an optimist is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat.
  • If a pessimist is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.
  • If an optimist sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy.
  • A pessimist wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.
  • If an optimist is down and out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
  • A pessimist wonders who is going to take care of him.
  • If an optimist does not like a talk show host, he switches channels.
  • Pessimists demand that those they don’t like be shut down.
  • If an optimist is a non-believer, he doesn’t go to church.
  • A pessimist non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.
  • If an optimist decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
  • A pessimist demands the rest of us pay for his.
  • If an optimist slips and falls in a store, he gets up, laughs and is embarrassed.
  • If a pessimist slips and falls, he grabs his neck, moans like he is in labor and then sues.
  • If an optimist reads this, he’ll share it so his friends can have a good laugh.
  • A pessimist will destroy it because he is "offended."
Recently I received a list of one-liners and was intrigued by the following one. "Peace starts with a smile." If people would put smiles on their faces I would think that their thoughts would not be so vindictive toward others. What is the point of berating someone? Everything can be discussed without getting belligerent. I have noticed that when I speak to my dog with a smile on my face he responds with shining eyes and a wagging tail and a look that I swear is a smile back. Maybe that shows that a dog is really a man’s best friend. Anyway, one thing I do know, he hates those pesky little flies as much as I do. Drive Carefully!

There can be no doubt that this is S T U P I D situation for such a great small town. Hughson is a special place and a special community. Perhaps we should think about how S T U P I D this all is at next year's city council elections?

Timing. Too late for a recall, and well ahead of Crowder's run for Mayor. What did he call the people of Hughson on that tape? These people are so S T U P I D. Well, we will see if he is right.
