The annual event is set for this weekend at Hughson High School.: Lilybeth George/The ChronicleThe 20th Century Club’s Hughson Arts & Crafts Faire runs Saturday and Sunday, November 21 and 22 at Hughson High School, corner of Whitmore and Seventh in Hughson.
The 39th annual event offers a variety of handmade original arts and crafts from vendors all over California, with plenty of new booths this year.
“I sell homemade crocheted and knitted scarves,” noted Sheryl Moreland, a new vendor from Modesto. “And we’re going to do some ceramics and my husband is doing some small animal carriers. They’re made out of wire and wood.”
There is no admission to come in and browse for a unique gift or goodie. Drawings for free hand-crafted items will be held on the hour both days.
Numerous organizations, including the 20th Century Club, Hughson Ag Boosters, and Hughson Future Farmers of America are involved. This event is the main fundraiser for the 20th Century Club, which has donated hundreds of thousands to causes such as United Samaritans food baskets, over 120 high school graduate scholarships, local school academic funding, sports programs, Community Hospice, Big Brothers, Big Sisters and more.
Next are just a few of the items offered at this year’s faire: baklava, gift baskets, bird houses, ceramic, crocheted scarves, decorated goose eggs, floral items, wedding accessories, and more.
Also on the weekend agenda is the 20th Century Club’s Goodie Booth with specialty coffee, cocoa, or apple cider while selected baked goods such as cookies, pies, nut breads, nuts, candy and more. In addition, attendees may register for a lavishly decorated Christmas tree. The winner will be announced at the close of the faire and ticket holders need not be present to win. As for entertainment, the Hughson High School Jazz Band is performing on Saturday in the school’s center court.
Both breakfast and lunch will be served in the expanded Food Court. The menu includes tri-tip sandwiches, hot dogs, nachos, chili dogs, roasted and flavored almonds, tacos, burritos and more.
Speaking of delicious food, on Sunday from 7 a.m. to noon, Hughson FFA is serving brunch at Hughson Elementary School, located one block away at Whitmore and Sixth. On the menu are pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, and fruit, coffee and orange juice. The costs are $6 adults, $4 children 5 to 12 and free for children under 5.
The faire runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, rain or shine. There is plenty of parking, due to an effort by Hughson Ag Boosters.
